Creation of Birds

Birds are frequently cited in the Quran as evidence of divine power and artistic creativity. Surah An-Nahl [16:79] considers the birds held aloft in the sky as a sign of Allah’s support and governance over all living things. Surah An-Nur [24:41] speaks metaphorically about every creature knowing its prayer and praise, indicating an inherent inclination to celebrate the Creator, which includes birds. Surah Al-Mulk [67:19] also poses a reflection on the birds’ flight in the sky, marveling at their ability to spread their wings and fold them without falling, a subtle nod to divine engineering and authority over all creatures.

Have they not seen the birds, flying in the midst of the sky? None sustains them except God. In this are signs for people who believe.

Do you not realize that God is glorified by whatever is in the heavens and the earth, and even by the birds in formation? Each knows its prayer and its manner of praise. God knows well what they do.

Have they not seen the birds above them, spreading their wings, and folding them? None holds them except the Compassionate. He is Perceiver of everything.
